Starfield Broadcast for Macross (超時空要塞マクロス - Chōjikū yōsai Makurosu) by Stefano Donno

The first thing we lost
was silence—
it cracked open over South Ataria
when the sky learned to speak
in engine noise and idol pop,
both on the same frequency.

You call it war,
but history will file it under
“debut single”:
a love triangle remixed
by afterburners and advertising,
chorus written by whoever survives.

Some nights the SDF-1 drifts
like a vinyl left spinning
after the party,
needle circling the same scar
in the groove of space–time,
broadcasting a song about home
to enemies who don’t have a word for “home”
that isn’t also “orders.”

We discovered this much:
giants fall quiet
when confronted with a melody
they were never trained to resist,
their doctrine eroding
under a hook that repeats
just enough to feel like memory.

In the cockpit,
love is measured in fuel remaining,
in how long you can keep
the target lock off the one
who once held your hand
backstage,
before command learned
to weaponize your harmony.

Every battle becomes another verse
in a poem the universe is drafting
in free fall:
no rhyme,
just debris patterns,
burned-in trajectories,
the stray note a pilot hums
to keep their hands from shaking.

Macross is not a fortress,
it’s a moving archive
of everything we refuse to surrender—
karaoke duets,
cheap merch from concerts that never happened,
a fan letter that crossed light-years
only to arrive
one timeline too late.

Some distant historian
will call this era
The Age of Weaponized Ballads
and they won’t be wrong,
but they won’t hear
the off-key rehearsal takes,
the fragile, private versions
sung into a dressing-room mirror
before the encore
saved a species.

Somewhere beyond radar,
a defeated fleet keeps replaying
the same human love song,
trying to decode
why the bridge
hits harder
than any cannon
they ever built
